A new and updated web installer is now available on GitHub Pages for Esparagus devices.
What is new
- Every supported device has the option to install either the stock ESPHome image or squeezelite-esp32, depending on your preference. Given my own experience, I set ESPHome as the recommended choice for each tested device.
- ESPHome factory image is a working configuration with the Sendspin media player included as standard; all that you need to do is connect it to wifi, using the same installer page, and onboard the device in HA, as it will be discovered automatically.
- You can stop there, and it will check for an updated image every 6 hours and pull it directly from GitHub as soon as a newer image is published
- You can also onboard it in the ESPHome app in HA, and built-in auto-update will pull YAML from GitHub and check for updates automatically.
- In case of trouble with the device, you can always come back to the web installer and install the factory image once again.
The above approach was shamelessly copied from the voice-pe repository and replicated for each supported board.
As a small bonus, you can also find links to the Airplay and Snapclient web-installers, in case that is what you’re looking for.
This should be considered a beta release, since there are quite a few moving parts, and now I need to be extra careful not to break anything by accident.
Moving forward, the Sendspin ESPHome image will be installed from the factory, but at the moment, feel free to start using the installer if you have a supported board, and send me feedback in case things go wrong.
